Important Dates
Exploring your school options to find the best school program for your child is an important process.
The following timeline and key dates outlines important due dates related to the annual school enrollment process which begins in the fall each year.
November - December 2024
- Nov. 11: Enrollment Season Kick-off
- School request portal opens, Enrollment Department begins accepting school requests in person and online at ExploreMPS.org
December 2024 – January 2025
- Time for parents to gather information, learn about options
- All schools host tours and open house events
- January TBA: Minneapolis School Finder Fair at Minneapolis College
- January 31: Due-date for inclusion in the first school request lottery
February – March 2025
- Mid - February: First lottery
- Mid to late February: Placement notification letters sent to families
- Families with a school placement can complete online school registration
April 2025
- April 1: Due-date for inclusion in the second school request lottery (for magnet requests only)
Late spring / Early summer 2025
- Schools hold welcome events
- Families with a school placement can complete online school registration
- Families submit additional information to schools: Educational Benefits form, Transportation request, birth document and immunization records
- Transportation requests need to be submitted before July 31 to ensure a bus stop for the start of school
Late summer 2025
- Families are notified of their bus stop information
- High school registration
